I was talking to a liberal friend the other day and we were joking about how stupid some religious conservatives can be. However, the total neglect of this next issue really doesn’t do any favors for the reputation of the intelligence of the entire faction. You see, while the Christian Right has been protesting the nomination of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius for Heath and Human Services Secretary - a move that would result in the removal of a pro-choice governor in a pro-life state and put her in a position that’s going to be filled by a pro-choicer regardless and have no impact on the life debate in this country… they’ve simultaneously missed the “Uniting American Families Act.”

I do want to give credit to Michigan’s Liberty Conservative Blogger, Michigan Redneck, for bringing this to my attention. For the record, I actually support the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA). But odds are that if you’re like many of my readers - you’re going to disagree with me adamantly about this. So what is the UAFA?

Well, it’s pretty well known that if you’re an American and you get married to a foreigner, you can sponsor that person for a relatively expedited American Citizenship. Well, today, that only works if you’re straight. If you’re a homosexual, well that’s too bad. The UAFA seeks to change that. If it becomes law, gays and lesbians will have the same immigration rights as heterosexuals.
