Internationally acclaimed performance artist Tim Miller will give a performance and lecture Oct. 2 at Texas Tech.

This feels like the strongest work I have ever done. Alistair’s visa runs out next year, and I will be facing the likelihood that I will be forced to leave the U.S. to seek immigration asylum in the UK because of homophobic U.S. immigration laws that deny gay couples the immigration rights that all heterosexual married couples are afforded.

As you can imagine, this gives a particular urgency to my current performance work on the subject. Considering gay folks in Texas are denied all these basic state rights that currently only gay people in California and Massachusetts have, they should be aware of this injustice in our country....
Immigration rights - For Indian gay and lesbian couples, immigration is a vital area in the push for gay rights. Presently, they face difficulties in making career moves because of limitations regarding the visas they can obtain for their partners. SALGA points out there is a disgraceful prejudice in denying people immigration equality on the basis of sexual orientation.

"We are hoping that legalising gay marriages will allow same-sex couples to file for visas like straight couples," said Sooklall. He added that SALGA receives pleas for help from its own members and from gays and lesbians living in South Asia. "I know two cases where people did get asylum," said Sooklall.

Britain, Canada, South Africa and most west European countries have immigration policies that recognise same sex couples, but there has been no change to American immigration laws for gay coup
I am embarrassed by my US passport anyway. From time to time Emi and I get a request to do an interview. Last week our immigration Laywer in New Jersey, Joyce Phipps (Highly Recommended) referred Emilio to a reporter looking to interview him regarding his Asylum case and the mess we went through. We've been trying to scramble time to talk to him, but working 7 days a week doesn't give us much time.

Recent events dealing with the US. The DOJ sent a letter asking for some documents regarding Emilio. Emi is still banned from re-entering the US, which is completely ridiculous to anyone who knows Emilio. It's like banning a Care Bear from the country.

Also I received an audit of my 2007 taxes, we know of one other couple (Nick & Mason) this happened to after moving to Canada. Coincidence or just more hell the US government enjoys putting us through, you decide. <
This blog deals largely with American and Canadian immigration and centres around questions of keeping LGBT families and spouses together. The blog has been calling on users to lobby their Members of Congress to cosponsor The Reuniting Families Act - this landmark bill addressing many of the obstacles families face as they struggle to navigate the U.S. immigration system and stay together, it marks the first time gay families have been part of a larger immigration reform bill.

LGF online have scoured the internet to bring you the most informative, entertaining and inspiring blogs from around the world.

The blogs we've chosen cover diverse issues from all sides of the LGBT equation. There's blogs from gay parents, gay conservatives, gay activists, young people coming out, older people coming out, and gay asylum seekers to name but a few.
US gay immigration: Senate hearings begin with tears, lack of empathy
Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committe held the first-ever hearing on the Uniting American Families Act, which would equalize the status of foreign-born same-sex partners of American citizens. Heterosexual Americans can earn citizenship for their foreign partners by marrying them. Gays, obviously, cannot do that, effectively making a gay American and his or her foreign spouse legal strangers.
Each of us did one or two things that we could do. And for that moment, we gave up feeling powerlessness, stopped being resigned and cynical. We know we will wake up again tomorrow as second class citiznens in the eyes of US federal law. And all we can do is take one more step. It is the only way we will win. It’s up to us.

A man accused of advising straight immigrants to claim homosexuality - and potential persecution in their home countries - when they applied for asylum has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit immigration fraud.

Steven Mahoney entered his plea Tuesday in federal court in Seattle.

The U.S. attorney's office says the 41-year-old Mahoney ran Mahoney and Associates in Kent, and held himself out as an expert in immigration affairs. They say he made money by advising immigrants on how to stay in the U.S. Between late 1998 and mid 2007, Mahoney admits he filed as many as 99 false immigration documents and was paid between $1,000 and $4,000 for each.

Mahoney faces a maximum five years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 21.

Mahoney's ex-wife Helen Mahoney, also charged with conspiracy to commit immigration fraud, faces a plea hearing later t
