If you don’t want to go to a march in Washington, DC, then fine, don’t go. But why toss around inaccuracies? I’ll be in Washington on October 11 because the issues are timely and important. In the meantime, I’ll be participating in local activism around the issue of marriage equality where I live here in Maine. I’ll be getting active on this issue at the local and national levels, even though as a married straight man I am not personally affected this time around, because the failure or achievement of equality under law affects us all.

According to Victoria Neilson, the legal director of Immigration Equality in New York, some travelers can enter the country and not report that they have HIV, because they don't realize that it's considered a "communicable disease of public health significance," as defined by the U.S. Department of State. Today, the Department of Human and Health Services (HHS) finally published its proposed regulations to lift the HIV travel and immigration ban in the Federal Register for a 45-day period of public comment.
It has certainly taken a long time and a lot of lobbying effort to reach this monumental point: when the HHS finally published its proposed regulations, before issuing the final regulations -- the day when all HIV-infected individuals will not be discriminated against from entering the country.
